About Explore the MCC: Textiles through Time
During these sessions you’ll have the opportunity to see, study, handle, photograph and sketch a select group of textiles from the museum collection. These objects are usually in storage, making this an exciting chance to examine objects from the collection which aren’t currently on display.
Each session will focus on a different type of textiles:
- Wednesday 11 June – Samplers
- Wednesday 9 July – 16th and 17th-century embroidery
- Wednesday 6 August – Lace
You’ll also have time to explore the main warehouse at the Museum Collection Centre where you can encounter a huge variety of objects – everything from sculpture to steam engines.
You’re welcome to take photographs of the collection, as long as they’re not for commercial use.
If you want to draw the collection or make notes, you’re welcome to do so but only using pencils – no pens, inks or paints.
Warm clothing is advisable and sensible footwear is essential.
Bags and food and drink are not allowed within the store, but lockers are available.
Please be aware that this event will involve a lot of standing and walking. There is more access information about the MCC here.
