Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is housed in a stunning Grade II* listed landmark building that has watched over the city’s Chamberlain and Victoria Squares since 1885, welcoming millions of visitors over the years.

We are excited that several gallery spaces will reopen to the public on Thursday, 24 October. In this phase of reopening, we will share more of the city’s collections and tell stories about Birmingham as a complex, vibrant, and multicultural city.

The gallery spaces reopening include the stunning Round Room, Industrial Gallery, and Bridge Gallery, along with a new family space 'Wild City' and a new digital area 'Pixel Studio'. The reopening gallery spaces have undergone sensitive flooring and roof restoration work, ensuring that you will experience your favourite artworks in a whole new light.

You will also be able enjoy the refreshed tearoom and museum shop, which will reopen with a new food and drink menu and unique gift collections created in collaboration with local artists and makers.

Galleries to visit

  • The iconic Round Room will be at the heart of this reopening with its 'One Fresh Take' display which looks at how art can be a way to see the world differently. It showcases new and familiar artworks alongside Jacob Epstein's stunning bronze sculpture, Lucifer.
  • The Industrial Gallery features a new exciting 'Made in Birmingham' display which explores some of the characteristics of Birmingham and what it means to be shaped by this city.
  • Wild City is our new area dedicated to children and families. It tells stories about nature in the city.
  • Pixel Studio is our new digital gallery and activity space. This area will host screenings of digital work created by artists and producers from across the region, including two short films 'The Tiny Spark' by Pogus Caesar and 'Excerpt' by Mixed Milk.

Major capital works to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery were made possible thanks to funding from the Government’s Museums Estate and Development Fund (MEND) through Arts Council England. We are hugely grateful to our funders FCC Communities Foundation, DCMS/Wolfson Foundation Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund and Friends of Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery for their generous support towards the reopening of the galleries in this phase of the redevelopment.
